Solstice Gathering

Join me in celebrating the Winter Solstice on Thursday, December 21, at 4PM Eastern time. We’ll meet just for an hour. An opportunity to connect with each other. And to honor the sacred cycle of the Earth, the Sun and the Night.

It will be a simple coming together.

We will take a breath away from the rush and excitement of the Holiday Season. We will light candles to reflect on the darkness. We will sense into that which is waning in our lives, as well as into that which is waxing.

I recently returned from a beautiful honeymoon and a powerful bit of work in Perú. Where the Inca people worshiped the Sun.

We learned about the Inca Trinity, the symbolism of the Condor, the Jaguar and the Serpent. The representation of the three worlds, the Heavens, the Earth and the Underworld.

But it was not until a few days before our return that I realized I misunderstood what the Incas meant by the underworld. I thought it meant a world of darkness, it reminded me of something like hell, or the world of the dead.

But our guide on Machu Picchu clarified that the Inca “underworld” is the world within. The world we cannot see unless we take time for reflection. And this made me think of the Winter Solstice, of the darkest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. A night to turn our gaze inwards, to feel into what is not always easy to see.

Let’s take a pause and do it together.

Let’s take a pause and dance gently with our star.

Before there was religion, before writing and the internet, we human beings used ritual to remember what is most important. And pass it on to our descendants.

Even if you are not able to join us on December 21, set aside some time for ritual. Make yourself a little Winter Solstice plan. Find a way to honor this change from darkness to light.

Do something simple. Connect to this thing we’ve been doing together since the beginning of time.

Light a candle, say a prayer, bake your own bread and maybe have it with wine. Remember those who are cold. Come to know what is dark within you. And turn your heart towards the light.

I’m inviting my friends to join me online for just an hour, on Thursday, December 21, at 4PM Eastern time. This way we can be together just as the sun starts to set over the East.

Sign up here if you are able to join. We’ll send you a calendar invite and a note on how to prepare.
